This Privacy Policy explains how Eloca ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our iOS application.
By using Eloca, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Data We Collect
We do not collect or store personal data like your name, email address, or IP address on our servers. Your personal information and progress is stored locally on your device. The limited data described below is processed by trusted third parties to run the app.

- Your name (optional, for personalization)
- Progress data (XP, level, streaks, completed sessions)
- Vocabulary words and idioms you save
- Exercise and lesson completion history
- App preferences and settings
- Anonymous support ID (for customer service only)
Sent to Third-Party AI Services
- Voice recordings — Sent to OpenAI (Whisper API) to transcribe speech drills, and to ElevenLabs for conversational AI practice
- Conversation transcripts — Sent to OpenAI for feedback analysis and coaching
- Practice context — Scenario descriptions and session details sent with your audio for personalized feedback
Collected Automatically
- Crash logs (via Apple's diagnostics tools)
- Basic device information (device model, iOS version)
- Anonymous usage analytics (via Apple, Superwall, and PostHog)
2. How We Use Your Data
We use this information to:
- Provide AI-powered speech analysis and feedback
- Enable conversational AI practice scenarios
- Transcribe your voice practice sessions
- Generate personalized coaching and improvement tips
- Track your progress locally on your device
- Manage and present subscription offers
- Diagnose bugs or crashes
- Understand general usage (e.g., screen views, feature usage) through anonymous analytics
- Provide customer support when you contact us
All analytics data is anonymized. We never sell your personal information or voice data, and never use it for advertising.
3. Third-Party AI Services
Eloca uses artificial intelligence to help you improve your communication skills. Your voice and practice data is processed by:
OpenAI
- What we send: Voice recordings (speech drills), conversation transcripts, practice session context
- What they do: Transcribe audio (Whisper API) and generate feedback / coaching
- Data retention: Processed via the OpenAI API to return results. API data is not used to train OpenAI's models and may be retained only briefly for abuse monitoring, per OpenAI's policy.

- What we send: Voice recordings, scenario context, conversation history
- What they do: Power conversational AI for realistic practice scenarios

Important Notes
- Voice data is sent only when you use voice features (scenarios, drills, exercises)
- Text-only features (vocabulary, reading, lessons) do not send audio externally
- You can use the app without voice features if you prefer not to share audio data
- No voice data is sent without your explicit action (starting a practice session)
4. Other Third-Party Services
We use the following services to operate the app:
Apple App Store & Analytics
App distribution, in-app purchases, and basic usage insights.
RevenueCat
Subscription management and purchase validation. What we send: anonymous app-user identifier, purchase receipts. Privacy: revenuecat.com/privacy
Superwall
Presenting subscription offers (paywalls) and measuring how they perform. What we send: anonymous app/device identifier and paywall interaction events (views, taps, conversions). Privacy: superwall.com/privacy
PostHog
Anonymous product analytics (screen views and feature usage) to help us improve the app. What we send: anonymous usage events only; no name, email, or voice data. Hosting: EU (PostHog Cloud). Privacy: posthog.com/privacy
Free Dictionary API
Word definitions for the vocabulary feature (word queries only; no personal data sent).
5. No User Accounts
Eloca does not require account creation. Your progress is stored locally on your device. An anonymous identifier is used solely to manage your subscription status through RevenueCat. No personal information is linked to this identifier.
6. Your Privacy Controls
Data Deletion
To delete your local data, delete the Eloca app from your device; all local data (progress, vocabulary, preferences) is permanently removed. To request deletion of voice data processed by our AI providers, or of anonymous analytics data associated with your device, contact us at support@eloca.ai.
Microphone Permission
Eloca requests microphone access only when you start a voice practice session. You can deny it and still use text-based features, and change it anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Notification Permission
Eloca requests notification permission for optional practice reminders. You can deny it and still use all app features, and change it anytime in iOS Settings → Notifications → Eloca.
Analytics
Eloca collects anonymous usage analytics (via Apple, Superwall, and PostHog) to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This data is anonymized and is never sold or used for advertising. To request deletion of analytics data associated with your device, contact support@eloca.ai.
7. Children's Privacy
Eloca is rated 12+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware of unintentional data collection from a child, we will delete it promptly.
8. Data Security
- All data stored locally on your device is protected by iOS security
- Voice data sent to AI services is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- API keys are securely stored
- No passwords or sensitive credentials are collected
However, no internet service is 100% secure. We encourage you to protect your device with a passcode.
9. AI-Generated Content & Analysis
Eloca uses AI to generate feedback, coaching advice, and conversational practice. This content is generated automatically based on your voice and practice sessions, intended for educational and skill-improvement purposes only, not a substitute for professional speech therapy or communication coaching, and may occasionally contain errors or inaccuracies.
10. International Users
Our AI services (OpenAI and ElevenLabs) may process data in the United States and other countries. By using Eloca, you consent to the transfer and processing of your voice data in these locations, which may have different privacy laws than your country.
11. UK GDPR & Legal Basis for Processing
For users in the United Kingdom and European Economic Area:
- Our legal basis for processing your voice data is your explicit consent, given when you start a voice practice session. You may withdraw consent at any time by stopping use of voice features or deleting the app.
- Our legal basis for anonymous analytics is our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and improving it. This data is anonymized and is not linked to your identity.
As a UK-based service, we comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR).
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with a new "Effective Date" at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes go into effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or via our website.
13. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access information about what data is processed; request deletion of voice data from third-party AI providers; request deletion of anonymous analytics data associated with your device; opt out of optional features (voice practice, notifications); and contact us with privacy concerns or questions.
